Meetings are a waste of time.
There, I said it.
Most people think this. And I totally get why.
Traditional meetings set around a table are bloody boring.
As is listening to those that like the sound of their own voice talk. And talk. And talk.
Dead chat I think Gen Z call it 💀
If you think back to one such dreadful meeting, I can almost guarantee one, some, or all of the following occurred:
📌 The introverted sat in silence.
📌 There was one person who held court.
📌 People shifted in their seats uncomfortably as conflict kicked off.
📌 School playground hierarchy reared its ugly head.
📌 You felt sorry for the shy who were forced to speak up.
📌 No-one accounted for the neurodiverse in advance.
📌 Dead eyes slowly but surely replaced enthusiasm as time dragged on.
Meetings should be fully collaborative, productive, and fun. Yes, even if the subject matter is dull/of great importance.
And most importantly, everyone should leave feeling energised and excited to tackle the new challenge.
Maybe it’s time to shake up tradition and discover a different way of holding meetings?
Maybe it’s time to think independently as per this pithy and powerful Economist ad?
Maybe it’s time to think as an economist?
